I like the black soap shampoo… its a bit different than I expected. Quite watery. When I use it, It doesn’t make suds from the beginning, it just kinda goes in like oil or any other type of watery product. I find that I have to use quite a bit and agitate my hair a lot before it even makes suds. This isn’t so great for me because I’m a waver… normally I would apply shampoo and brush it into my hair, which usually makes bubbles. But now I have to actually megs up my hair just to wash it. I wish this shampoo were a little thicker so I’d have to use less. IT does have the same smell as the bar soap, and cleans just as well. But I feel like i’m forced to use so much of it every time. I’d give it a 3 out of 5. I’m sorry.

Like the other reviewer said it’s very watery. It dried my hair and made it crunchy. The after smell is not that great it smells like old sweat I hope I just got a bad batch of the product. I would try the other shampoo but it’s never available.

Thank you for your honest review Desmond.

The shampoo did well for me! It lathered up & left my hair clean!

This shampoo is much better than the discontinued, original version. This formula is much thicker and easier to lather. Rub a nickel-sized amount in your palms during a shower and massage into scalp. I use it daily because it doesn’t contain harsh chemicals. I finish up after a shampoo with applying a small amount of both 7plus+ scalp serum and wave butter on my slightly damp hair. I brush my hair while it’s damp. Then, it dries into a nice sheen.
This shampoo leaves my scalp and hair clean daily.

Since it’s just a shampoo. Do u have a conditioner or recommend a conditioner to use after this shampoo?
John –
Our 7juices is the ideal leave in conditioner after your shampoo.

How much difference between this product and the black soap bar? Can I use the soap bar with similar results?
John –
Our Black Soap Shampoo contains the authentic raw black soap that the bar is purely made of.
John –
Absoloutly! The Black Soap Shampoo is formulated for beard and hair. The Black soap bar is NOT a shampoo and is pure Ose Dudu imported raw from West Africa and should be used as a traditional bar of soap.

I’ve read previous reviews from the past, one, featuring a person who complained about the consistency of this product and then wrote about how its much better and lathers up really well. I just wanted to articulate 2 things, 1.) If you’ve sacrificed this product from being fully natural to incorporate a foaming agent or other chemical to please customers who complained about it not lathering and being thick enough, please revert this. I’ve became aware that you have changed the formula for this shampoo after a customer complained regarding what they believe to be an issue because its not a “traditional” consistency of shampoo that they’re used to seeing. This isn’t supposed to be an ordinary shampoo. This is supposed a natural, high-quality shampoo with premium ingredients because that is how shampoo SHOULD be, not how a commercial shampoo IS. This person needs to realize that sacrificing a consistency that they’re used to is important to enjoy the benefits of something that will make your hair, scalp, and you healthier in the long run, and if they can’t realize that this product is not for them, With that being said, 2.) I’d love to ask once again (my previous review asking for a FULL ingredient list was deleted) for a FULL ingredients list to know exactly what ill be putting on my scalp, as transparency rules regardless of whats in it. Im sure this reply will be deleted too, with no response. But I wanted someone to at least see this message and hopefully relay it someone who can do something about this concern.

Hello. Our Black Soap Shampoo formulation has been the same since its release replacing our Ultra Shampoo in 2016. It is true that the shampoo does not lather up full to a thick lather as this is unnecessary to be effective, and is indeed often created by harsh chemicals that will strip your hair of it natural oils. Our Black Soap Shampoo does not contain the common ingredients that strip & damage hair and/or are listed to cause cancer as is found in many shampoos. We’ve replaced the unnecessary harsh detergents with raw black soap for its natural proven effectiveness and activated carbon has been added to help lift soil on a microscopic level with its absorbing properties. Our essential oil blend was created specifically for strand and scalp vitality. I hope this helps. It’s an ok shampoo but I still wish they would bring back the peppermint shampoo, by far the best shampoo I ever used for my waves.

I’m not sure where these negative reviews stem from. For me, this is the best shampoo I’ve ever used. I honestly get worried when I start to run low, because I don’t want to use anything else. It is light, clean, smells great and ultimately leaves my head feeling amazing post wash.
This shampoo is not supposed to be thick and overly sudsy like most retail brands. It may even surprise you just how light it feels on during your initial lather.
I have been using Coldlabel for quite some time and have witnessed the growth of a great black owned company. As I enjoy nearly all of their products; the black shampoo, 7plus+ Scalp Serum and King Oil are essential in my daily rotation.

This is a great shampoo. I like it & use regularly. Some of these reviews are a little off.
If your washing and it doesn’t lather up that means your hair is dirty…. I normally get the lather upon a 2nd to 3rd.
If your hair is dry after washing that can come from over washing or not conditioning it.
The only issue I have is the smell… It smells like the tea tree oil that’s in it. But all the products are great & I would recommend.
